SAND CITY is not only a great place to enjoy beach volleyball, we offer you a comprehensive Beach Sports complex with the addition of two more sports, beach badminton and foot volley, together with a great pool, licensed bar and function centre. Our newly renovated 4000 square metre multi-purpose block and building gives all members and visitors the ability to hold special events, and use our four sand courts for volleyball, badminton or footvolley. About Our Complex

SAND SPORTS

Playing on sand takes a little bit of getting used to even if you have played the sport on traditional surfaces but you will soon adapt and enjoy a great fun game. Sand sports give you a great workout while being easy on the joints. Sand City staff are here to assist you with any information you require on how to play the games or how to become a team member.

GREAT FAMILY DAYS

Try a different day out with fun and excitement. Sand City offer ‘social sand sports’ in a great facility which is not only aimed at competition sports. Our purpose designed sand sports complex includes a variety of areas where families can relax while watching game activities, have a refreshing dip in the pool or laze in the shaded Sand Lounge Social sand sports. 

ALL TEAMS WELCOME

From local or visiting teams to small groups or large conferences, Sand City welcomes all catering to teams of men, women and mixed on various levels from beginners to competitive. With a selection of regular teams playing, there is sure to be a skill level game to suit you. We encourage enquiries from team captains and new teams are welcome at any time during any season.

Our Mission is to provide Townsville and surrounding area residents and visitors with a state of the art facility that will enable both the young and adults to enjoy the fun of beach sports all year round. We will always place a high priority on the safety of our equipment and continue to operate under strict safety policies in accordance with guidelines set down by the authorities. Frequent Questions & Answers


What are your age groups for each sport?

We like to encourage juniors from about 8 years of age, but generally grades are based on skill levels. We have a grade for everyone.

Can I visit for a day as a spectator, if so, is there any fee?

Spectators are very welcome any day for any event or just to have a look around and relax a while. There is no fee at all for this.

Do you have mens, ladies and mixed team grades?

Grades are generally “Open”, but we also have events that have some games designated for  Men, Women, and Mixed

I have never been involved with something like this before, is there ‘beginner’ type training and teams?

We are happy to give beginner teams a free introductory lesson, but generally teams will be in an appropriate grade for their skills and will learn “on the job”.

Can I book your entire complex for a private function?

Yes of course, but bookings are essential and subject to availability.

I have not played sport for some time now, is there a particular fitness level requirement?

Not really, they are team sports, and you may be a bit slow in the sand until you get your “sand legs”.  The beauty for beginners is that many of our players are exactly that, and graded appropriately.

Can I come along and play for a game or two and pay for just that visit or am I required to have a term membership?

Whilst the short answer to this is ‘Yes’ - teams pay a “nomination fee” for the season, and then a game fee every time they play.  The opportunity often arises for a player to join in to a team which is short a player on the night.  We encourage individuals looking to join a team to come down on a night when their sport is being played and let our night manager know that they are available to fill in.  The player can contribute to the team fee.

Can I arrive with a few friends and have a casual game?

Yes, at an agreed time, and subject to availability.  Outside of regular game times we charge a “training fee” of $4 per person per hour.
