Dick Moody has an extensive sporting and business background, starting in NZ, where he played provincial cricket for Wellington and qualified as a licensed surveyor, before heading to Papua New Guinea in 1973.
Dick was the vice-captain of the PNG cricket team in 1979-81, and established a surveying and real estate business in Mt Hagen.
In 1984 he took the opportunity to establish an indoor cricket venue in Townsville as part of the new, nationwide, Indoor Cricket Arenas. This became Indoor Sports Arena in 1989 when the franchise terminated, and Dick expanded with a further venue in Rockhampton.
In 1993 Dick sold the Townsville business, to establish the new venue for beach volleyball, and also added beach volleyball courts to the Rockhampton business. In 1997 he added a Mackay venue with a further 4 courts. At the time of the 2000 Sydney Olympics over 500 beach volleyball teams were playing each week at the the 3 venues.
Dick managed an Australian team playing at a tournament in China in 2000, and also worked at the beach volleyball venue at the Sydney Olympics as a court supervisor. In fact he was lucky enough to usher Natalie Cook and Kerri Pottharst in to the arena to play for and win the gold medal.
Dick began downsizing his businesses in 2004, culminating in the sale of the Townsville one in 2010, and a brief period of retirement. He has continued to play Masters tournaments with a gold and a silver at the recent Australian Masters in Adelaide, and is now refreshed and excited by this new challenge to make the venue great again.
TO YOU ALL, WE EXTEND A HEARTY 'WELCOME BACK'!
